OIE Platform stakeholders/partners consultation meeting

OIE Platform stakeholders/partners consultation meeting

26th March 2015, OIE Headquarters, Paris, France

The OIE Platform on animal welfare for Europe is now operational since December 2013 and has achieved a great deal in 2014. It will deliver quite a robust and interesting programme of activities in 2015 and 2016 covering the topics of stray dog population management, transport and slaughter, mostly directed at Eastern Europe countries.

The OIE Platform is also a coordinating and dialogue mechanism to ensure that all countries and stakeholders involved in animal welfare in Europe share a common vision and conduct activities consistently towards achieving this vision, in compliance with OIE standards.

The objective of the first consultation meeting was to share respective portfolios of activities in the three topics covered by the first Action Plan of the Platform and to gain a clear understanding on who does what in the region. The meeting should then contribute to reinforcing synergies, pooling resources and avoiding duplications among key players on animal welfare in Europe.

It was agreed to organize a similar meeting on an annual basis, to create and maintain a culture of information sharing among the various AW stakeholders in the region.
